I am happy to announce the recent delivery of two new stickers: Afroid Alpha, and a new character design based on The Traveler! I have also restocked a few fan favorits, including the HXMP Shawry/Shawty, HXMP Doom Bison, and Afroid Roller.
Alpha evloved out of my first attempt at going from sketch to render entirely in Procreate on an iPad! The results were less than satisfying, but I found myself finally returning to the file and bringing in more of what eventually worked best in the other designs. Alpha is a hurler class afroid who dons a high-tech powered hand for patting down clusters of high-energy N.A.P.s (non-aligned particles) before launching his attacks. I have fond childhood memories of the morning grooming ritual with my dad that started with the “comb out” in a pump spray bottle, followed by brushing, and finally the quick flick of the afro pick. I hated the one with an all-metal body. It seemed to hurt more than the plastic one, but maybe that was my imagination. My older cousin Charles did his own hair. I’d watch him follow the same routine when we’d visit his house in East Oakland Saturday mornings in the early 80s.
Black Comix Day 2024 is right around the corner. I am very excited to be returning to San Diego and participating again.
